The Ultimate Rabbit Hole #14

The Ultimate Rabbit Hole

Huzzah for the weekend. I can’t believe that this time last week, I was hot footing it all over Canberra and channelling my Inner Minnie.  Isn’t it funny the difference a week makes?

Running makes me happy. For me, it’s not just about how it makes my body look and feel, it’s about what it does for my emotional wellbeing. That is a lot. A whole lot. Running is my number one stress buster and it’s much cheaper (and frankly, a lot more fun,) than therapy. It’s quite the theme this week, Steph talked how running changed her life – she’s so inspiring  – but it’s not just us. Even celebrities say so.

I have a brain that goes at two speeds, slow and stop. I once went to the doctor because I was worried about early onset of dementia, to which she told me, “if you can remember that you’re forgetting, you’ve got nothing to worry about.” But still I worry. What can I say? Worrying is my life’s work. In the meantime, I’ m all over these tips for a healthy brain and the  bonus brain food recipe too.

Talking of keeping healthy and eating healthy I am determined to get to the local  Farmers’ Markets if it’s the last thing I do. My nana trolley needs an outing, and quite frankly, so do I.  I’ll be an old hand now that I have my very own guide on how to shop at a Farmers’ Market!

If you’ve ever wondered what you can do to support a friend whose child has a diagnosis of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), wonder no more. Just read this. Even if you don’t have a friend who has a child with an ASD diagnosis, read it anyway because not only is this post open, honest and real, it’s also about looking out for each other.

I love sleep. I just can’t get enough of it… literally. I’m a sucker for some good sleep tips and I love the sound (and I’m sure to love the smell) of this lavender pillow spray. I’m totally going to try this. It’s got to be the ultimate way to scent myself to sleep!

Autumn is here and the mercury is dropping like hot weather is going out of fashion. I think leggings are totes going to be my friend this season, so I loved these rules for wearing leggings.

Tell me, have you popped your Farmers’ Market cherry yet? Does the amount you move affect your mood? Are you getting enough of the good stuff (and by good stuff, I mean, sleep)? What’s your number one fashion favourite this season? Pray, do tell!

Here’s how  The Ultimate Rabbit Hole works:

Every Saturday morning, we will open up the rabbit hole link up for bloggers to add their link list posts or even just their favourite post (if you are not of the link list kind) for the week.  Do try and pop along to say howdee to some of  the other lovely linkers. Link up here, over at Calm to Conniption, A Little Part of the World or Our Urban Box. It doesn’t matter where you add your link because it will appear on all four blogs, as if by magic!  The link up will stay open until midnight the following Monday.

Be a smarty and join this linky party!

  • We also dropped into Autumn suddenly and soon the ice cold temps will be here. I am taking omega 3 and 6 because my bad memory and concentration has gone from really bad to terrible. I am off to read your healthy brain tips after this. My paternal grandmother lost her mind long before her life and my father is on his way there. So a bit worrying.
I love my sleep and don’t get nearly enough and I think I must try the lavender pillow spray. I love vanilla, but think the only benefit is the smell.
Have a lovely weekend and thanks for the great links

    • Yes, definitely try the lavender spray, it’s meant to have special sleep properties. I’ve also heard that spraying the room with lavender or burning lavender essential oil in the bedroom before you go to sleep is also goo. Plus ants hate the smell of lavender, so it’s a great anti-ant measure! Winning! Hope you have a great weekend x

  • Happy weekend lovely! Last weekend I actually had TOO much sleep if that’s possible and ended up feeling more tired than when I get the 6-7 hours that seem to be ideal for me. I also LOVE farmers markets and am lucky there is a great one near me. Thanks for hosting x

    • Is there such a thing as too much sleep? Surely not! You’re so lucky to have a great Farmers’ Market near you. I’m going to have to do some research to find which ones are in my hood. Happy weekend x

  • Nat Smith

    Happy weekend, lovely!

I love sleep – the last few days I haven’t had enough (thanks so much, life!) but I’m surviving. Thinking a slower paced weekend is required.

  • So not getting enough sleep at the moment but am going to rectify that tonight I promise! I keep forgetting things all the time too – might go hand in hand with not enough sleep but I loved the tips for a healthy brain. I’ve shared the ASD post too. Hope you have a fantastic weekend lovely. x

  • We have 2 farmers markets close by, one much larger than the other – & much busier! We don’t go very often, but when we do the produce we bring home is amazing.

  • Thanks for the ASD link, it seems so many of my friends are having to deal with this right now.

  • vegeTARAian

Oh gosh, I also love to snooze. Sleeping is my super power!

  • Fleur @ Our Urban Box

Top links today Sammie! I went to the local farmers market a few weeks ago and got some fresh produce and eggs. I was saddened to see that the market had dwindle in size compared to the last time I went which was about a year ago. I am going to make a effort to go each month now and support the farmers! And thanks for the ASD link. I know of two families that are going through this, so thats one I am definitely reading x

    • That ASD link is awesome. That’s why I really want to go to the markets, because we can support the farmers and buy better produce. Winning on both counts!

  • Great post Sammie.
I have popped my farmers market cherry, love them, just don’t get there as often as I would like and a Granny trolley would be fab!
How much I move does definitely contribute to my mood! I need to move a little more.
This season I would like a pair of those trendy ankle boots (no idea what they are called) and a navy and white striped jacket!
    Have a great weekend xx

    • Oh yes, I’m after ankle boots too! I’ve got some black ones so I’m after a brown pair. I can’t wait to go to the Farmers’ Market, I’m hoping it’s going to turn into a healthy habit! Happy weekend!

  • I would love to find a local farmers marker…I feel some research is needed.

    • Farmers’ markets are everywhere these days. I am sure there would be one near you – it’s like a destination in itself!

  • Oh you darling, thanks for sharing my link.
That farmer’s market link is a good’un. My new job means weekends off so I can finally do these things!

  • Great list! In fact, so great I have read most of them 🙂 I’m off to check out that lavender pillow spray coz I have been looking for something to help with my sleep. Thanks!

  • I’m rather late to the linky party. Only popping in briefly but will be back later tonight to catch up on those links and do some blog hopping.

  • Katie Rainbird

This is a very cool linky party Sammie! x

  • Love the farmers market article. Now I have no excuse not to get down there!

  • I love the farmer’s market we go to. There’s a lady there selling fresh dumplings, so we visit her first for breakfast, then on to the fresh veg and fruit. It’s a nice way to spend a Saturday morning and gets me in the mood to cook!

    • OK, so you had me at dumplings. Where is this market that you speak of? If it sells fresh dumplings, I must go there!

  • I seem to miss the farmer’s markets because I train my gals on a saturday morning, I do go to the other markets though, so much better (and more inspiring) than a supermarket!

  • Any market is more inspiring more than a supermarket, hey?
