The Ultimate Rabbit Hole #77

The Ultimate Rabbit Hole 59

Welcome to edition 77 of the Ultimate Rabbit Hole! If there was a bingo caller in the house, I’m sure they’d say something like “all the 7’s 77, Rabbit Hole Heaven!” There’s no time to waste, let’s hop to it, shall we?!

Yesterday was very exciting because it was National Maple Syrup Day. Now maple syrup is one of my all time favourite ingredients because it’s so delicious and it’s so versatile. That said, can I tempt you with Maple Cinnamon 3 Nut Butter,  Maple Syrup Lamb Shank (in the slow cooker, no less!) or some Maple Syrup DumplingsOh, and let’s not forget my very own Maple Glazed Chicken which was one of my most delicious discoveries on the dreaded low iodine diet!

In other news, I love these 24 non-crap things to say to the sad person in your life. Saying something is better than nothing, but you want that something to be a good thing, am I right or am I right?!

Talking about sad people, how about sad news? There is just so much of it. I’ve been wearing my emotional raincoat like it’s going out of fashion. These tips on how to stay positive when the news is incessantly negative are going to come in very handy.

I do love me some morning routine and as much as I love my own, I love checking out what everyone else is doing too. When it comes to these morning routines of the mentally toughyou can totally teach an old dog new tricks. This old dog at least!

We’re past the halfway in winter mark down under and I’m already looking forward to resurrecting my herb garden in spring. These herb gardens for your home had me thinking outside the plant box!

Our big trip is fast approaching, six weeks and counting. Squee! I don’t want to pre-empt the flight situation but I’m bookmarking these 15 ways to survive airport delays… just in case!

I do like to contemplate the meaning of life, and lately, I’ve been contemplating the meaning of blogging, or my blogging, at least. I wonder what the point of it is, or if there is one at all. This post was a well timed reminder that in blogging, just as in life, your influence is immeasurable. Still on the subject of important reminders, here are some great tips on how to switch off and be more presentThat’s why it’s called being present, because it’s a gift! Talking of gifts, here are 9 simple pleasures that don’t cost a thing except time.

And what is a rabbit hole without a puppy post? (The answer to that, is not a rabbit hole.) It’s impossible not to smile at these 15 dogs who are the captain now. If you don’t believe me, try it for yourself!

No wyou know how I’m heading off soon to run rings round Disney, well, we’re looking for a guest host to fill my running shoes around The Ultimate Rabbit Hole for every weekend in September while I’m away! Would you be keen? If you are drop me an email because we’d like to fill the guest spot in the next couple of weeks.

Now, before you head off into the sunset, tell me, do you love maple syrup too? How do you use yours? Have you got a herb garden? (If you have, I haven’t got green fingers, but I am green with envy!) What are your top tips for surviving an airport delay? Are you a morning person or a night owl? Have you got an emotional raincoat too? What’s your weekend plan? Tell me all the things!

Every Saturday morning, we will open up the rabbit hole link up for bloggers to add their link list posts or even just their favourite post (if you are not of the link list kind) for the week. Please link only one post. This makes it fair for everyone and allows more posts to be read. Talking of reading, do try and pop along to say howdee to some of  the other lovely linkers. Link up here, over at Calm to Conniption or The Geeky Shopaholic. It doesn’t matter where you add your link because it will appear on all three blogs, as if by magic!  The link up will stay open until midnight the following Monday.

  • The news has been pretty tough lately. We are so lucky to live in Australia and be protected from so much. It’s nice to have the luxury of being able to escape with blogs too, when it all gets too much.

Enjoy your weekend and thank you for the linkup.

    • I feel so lucky that I get to live in Australia, I am literally living the dream. 2016 has been a tough one for human kind, I really hope that the latter part of the year brings more peace, more joy and lots of good news. In other news, hope your weekend is a cracker!

  • Happy Saturday lovely! I love the morning routine article, my husband goes back to work on monday so the real fun of me trying to get all three boys organised will begin – I need all the help I can get! I haven’t been watching a lot of news lately to be honest, as Mr 4 started asking quite a lot of questions about why the ‘baddies’ were hurting police when he saw a story on the US shootings. Yes it’s good to talk to them about what’s going on in the world, but if I can protect him a bit longer then I will. I think you are just amazing running Disney again and can’t wait to follow your fab adventure xx

    • I’m sure you’ll find your groove, you’re Supermum after all! It’s hard enough watching the news as an adult, let alone a child. It’s so tricky to know what to say, isn’t it? So excited about Disney… all this weekend training, not so much! Happy Weekend!

  • How did I miss maple syrup day??? And I love the list of things to do during an airport delay, I could’ve used those last month… x

    • When it comes to celebrating Maple Syrup Day, it’s always better late than never! I had zero delays on my homecoming tour but I think it’s inevitable with the number of flights we’re taking in the States. Im bracing myself. Have an ace weekend x

  • Thanks I am going to try your maple syrup chicken tonight in honor of maple syrup day. Seriously.
And if you would have seen me on Wednesday, you would have found me in a ball on the couch, I just lost a contract and thought it was the end of the world, I had to take a half day, to feel sorry for myself, then I just had to believe that an even better train is coming, so I’m back to 98%. When you work for yourself, it’s a constant stress to have regular money coming in, I decided to get up and fake it till I make it…. Because positive works best for me, that half day of feeling sorry for myself is over, I still have no answers, but it’s a better day today. I love Becs post on your influence is immeasurable.
You my friend are a legend, I love what you do, and you are so gorgeous in real life too, there would be a big space if you stopped doing what you do.
Have a great weekend lovely, X

    • I’m sorry that you lost a contract, although I’d say the loss wasn’t yours, but for the client. They obviously have no notion of fabulous, because that’s you, absolutely! Let me know what you think if you try the maple chook and thank you for your beautiful words. I hope you’re being nice to yourself this weekend, and remembering how awesome you are xx

  • I hear you on the world around us and the anger/fear thing that is taking over everywhere we look on the news etc. I am looking after myself by no longer watching the news (unless its the weather report!) and checking out Antiques Roadshow instead. Self-care is prime. You are to be applauded for your positivity too, Sammie. Keep on keeping on. D xx

  • Lucy @ Bake Play Smile

Oooh maple syrup day!!! How cool is that!

  • jess

HAVE to check out those maple syrup recipes. And love those morning routines of the mentally strong.

  • Natalie @ Our Parallel Connect

As a blogger, I often forget (or actually still don’t believe) I have an influence on anyone. I write for myself and if people like it, then I am touched.

  • Dianne Childs

Yay! Cute doggies in boats! That’s brightened my morning 🙂

    Di from Max The Unicorn

  • I love maple syrup – I can’t believe that I missed ‘Maple Syrup Day’. I’m off to check out all the maple syrup recipes…and all the link ups {seriously my favourite thing to do on a Saturday afternoon}.

    • Aww, thanks! I love hanging out around the rabbit hole at the weekend and getting lost in all these lovely links x

  • Isn’t the world just so full of ugliness, hatred and sorrow lately. I stay off Twitter every now and again, because I find that there you can go down a quagmire of hatred and anger filled thoughts even in only 140 characters. I don’t openly debate, but just get deeper and deeper reading the debates, can be quite frightening.
Please dont ever stop or even think about stopping your blog, if your positivity isn’t a great influence, your cooking/baking skills most definitely are. Your blog has been a great influence on my ability to strech my baking/cooking skills with your I can anyone can attitude (I wish I can 😂).
The positivity on your blog is the equivalent of an emotional raincoat from the ugliness out there.
Can’t believe it is almost time for your Disney race, you must br beyond excited. Looking forward to your pics.
Oh and how fabulous are those Herb Gardens. I want a herb garden, because the cost of fresh herbs is more than the plant itself, but with my dogs these outside the kitchen will be perfect.

    • I’m not very good at Twitter and I’m rather pleased about that! I love that you think the blog is an emotional raincoat, it certainly makes me happy, and if it makes other people happy too, that’s quite a bonus! We are really looking forward to Disney, although no one will be as relieved as me when I cross the half marathon finish line!

  • merilyn

i’m wearing my emotional raincoat too thankyou sammie you are a ray of sunshine in this world!
i’m late down the bunny hole today as we are heading off to qld
for 6wks on Tuesday so I won’t be commenting very often! … i’ll use my daughter’s computer sometimes!
can only do one thing at a time! … so i’m going to holiday!;))
we all need to look after our spirits in these times and spread love into the universe!
I no longer watch the news! I think when we are bombarded with constant heavy energy it’s so bad for our psyches!
much love hun and you have a gorgeous holiday too!
    much love m:)X

    • Oh, you are so lovely M! I hope you have a wonderful break – you will probably be coming back just as I’m leaving, we’ll be like planes that pass in the sky! See you on the other side. Lots of love to you xx

  • I’m definitely a night owl since I work third shift! It’s the Vampire life for me! And those dogs are so cute! Hope you’re having a great weekend Sammie! 🙂

    • Vampires! Now I see how Buffy got her name! She must be a canine of the night! Hope your weekend was full of fabulous!

  • Am most certainly a maple syrup person love it. I used to have a great herb garden in Sydney but I think that was down to luck as I have managed to kill every herb I’ve planted here. My flight was delayed 2 hours yesterday – I shopped to get through it!!! Thanks for hosting lovely xx

  • Oh I hope all our emotional raincoats are thick at the moment! Necessary so we all get out of bed. Congrats on your new running bling! x

  • That 24 non-crap things to say to the sad person in your life is so good, haha!

I feel like we all need a seriously thick emotional raincoat at the moment – but at the same time that raincoat needs a few holes in it so we can realise that it’s time to make a change.

    • Pip’s post was a cracker, wasn’t it?! I think you’re right about the thick raincoat and I agree about the change, we can’t change the world but we can make changes in our own little part of it. Reminds me of that Mother Teresa quote, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” Here’s to good vibes and good ripples!

  • Gosh such a maple syrup addict! How exciting is your trip going to be, YAY!

    • I love maple syrup too. I’m going eat all the maple things when I’m in Canada. Hopefully the trip will be very exciting!

  • So many wonderful links to keep me busy in the days ahead. Thanks Sammie. I’ll be checking out those lamb shanks in the slow cooker for sure. Anything in one pot gets my tick. The point of your blogging is “We love you Sammie and you touch our hearts. You have the ability to make us feel special”. You are special – Love your work Sammmie. 🙂 Xx

    • I think one pot is one-derful, don’t you?! I think we have a bit of a mutual admiration society going on here, Sandra! Mwah x

  • Sometimes I feel (probably naively) protected here in Adelaide. We’re so small and insignificant that it is seems unlikely we’ll be the target of any major threat – it can be annoying to miss out on big-name retail vendors and events but if the trade-off is relative safety, I guess I can live with it.

    • I think that’s the scary thing these days – there is crazy everywhere. It’s a good reminder to just enjoy every day and be kind to one another x

  • Lorraine @ Not Quite Nigella

You’ve always got such great link Sammie! And hehe I can always count on you to have something doggy related too! 😀 Yes what is happening in the world nowadays? Sigh…

    • I’m so poody (desperate for a dog) that if I can’t have one in my apartment, I’ll go gooey eyed over puppy posts on the blog instead! I wish I had a magic wand for the world!

  • Hi Sammie
I can see that maple nut butter in my life soon. I love using maple in my stir-fry sauce. The morning routine tips were great! X Simone
