The Ultimate Rabbit Hole #102

URH 72

Hello friends! Welcome to the weekend. If you’re down under, I hope you had an oz-some Australia Day. Hope your day was full of happy and delicious. Ours was totally magic because we spent the night in Agrabah (AKA the Capitol Theatre) with Aladdin. The show was just as sparkly and magic as I remembered, only moreso.

Talking of sparkles and celebrations, sending out virtual cake and heartfelt wishes to our trusty co-pilot Shari who celebrated her birthday yesterday. Birthdays are the best! Is it me or does time fly by faster the older you get? I can hardly believe that this is the last bunny hole adventure for January, wherever does the time go?! Anyway, I’ve got some cracking links to share so let’s jump in, shall we?!

Guess what! It’s National Blueberry Pancake Day! I could totally smash some pancakes for breakfast after my run. If you’re a pancake purist, you’ll love these Blueberry Pancakes Of  Your Dreams. Jamie is a genius, see how he turns a healthy smoothie into Blueberry Blender Pancakes …for realz! I’m also eyeing off these Blueberry Pancake Bites. If you’re looking for a low fat, gluten free, sugar free, vegan pancake, then these Buckwheat Blueberry Pancakes are the perfect pancake for you! If the weather is so hot, you’re nearly melting, why not cool down with this Blueberry Pancake Ice Cream?!

I’m getting stuck into my second list of 101 things to do in 1001 days with gusto and there’s some considerable overlap with these 21 things to do for yourself this year. I do love working my way through a list, especially when it’s as awesome as this one!

This year my goal is to eat better and try to battle the bulge. It’s taken me 5 years to acquire these 20kgs, I really hope it doesn’t take me another 5 to lose them! It’s easy staying on track at home, but eating out can be more of a challenge so I’m loving these 10 easy tips for healthy eating out.

If you’ve ever received a text message from me, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of emojis so I was fascinated to find out which emoji was France’s favourite, and which was most popular around the world. What an eye opener!

I’m on a mission to save more and spend less this year, if you are too, here are 9 ways to get your financial life in order, straight from your phone. It’s app-tastic!

Talking of awesome apps, check out this one that makes it easy for the most amateur photographer to remove unwanted objects from their photos,  Oh, so handy!

We’re already heads down, bums up planning our big trip for 2017 and these 5 things that transformed the way Rachel travels are going to transform the way I travel too!

Now I avoid politics the way I avoid tofu, that is with enthusiasm. However, it’s hard to ignore what’s happening at the White House these days,  but these pictures from women’s marches around the world gives me hope and proper goosebumps. I really believe that together we can make a difference.

And because a rabbit hole adventure is not a rabbit hole adventure without a canine addition, here are 11 bizarre and hilarious facts about dogs.  Just goes to show, you really can learn something new every day!

What are you up to this weekend? What’s on your 2017 agenda? Are you a fan of emojis too? Which is your favourite? Hit me up with your favourite travel tips!

Every Saturday morning, we will open up the rabbit hole link up for bloggers to add their link list posts or even just their favourite post (if you are not of the link list kind) for the week. Please link only one post. This makes it fair for everyone and allows more posts to be read. Talking of reading, do try and pop along to say howdee to some of  the other lovely linkers and my awesome co-hosts. This week, you can link up here or bob on over and say hello to Paula at  The Geeky ShopaholicJess at Confident Life and Shari at Good Food WeekIt doesn’t matter where you add your link because it will appear on all four blogs, as if by magic!  The link up will stay open until midnight the following Monday.

  • I’m now craving blueberry pancakes for breakfast and have sent my hubby to the local fruit market to buy some blueberries!

  • I’m also trying to eat healthy and get fitter in 2017 … and then you go and show me pancakes but at least they have blueberries in them 🙂 Have a great weekend!

    • Well, blueberry pancakes should totally count as 1 of your 5 a day, amirite or amirite?! Hope you had a delicious weekend!

  • That’s a rabbit hole of reading right there (even without adding us linkers). An app that removes unwanted objects from photos? Yes please! And I LOVED Aladdin. Loved, loved, loved. As for Blueberry Pancake Day … I think I have some blueberries …
    Happy Saturday 🙂

    • I loved Aladdin as much the second time as I did the first, only more! It’s just pure magic! Hope you had a fab weekend 🙂

  • Ruth Meaney

Blueberry Pancake Day!!! Woohoo!!! Glad you had an awesome time at Aladdin 🙂 I took my daughter to the movies for the first time this week!! Was so much fun!!

  • LydiaCLee

I’m actually having blueberry pancakes today – I was totally unaware!!

  • I will be having pancakes today although I will not be adding blueberries sadly. Oversight on my part!

Nice to see a post from Rachel on the list, she’s a great blogger and a lovely person. I was lucky to meet her when she was in Brisbane recently!

Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for the link up.

    • I loved Rachel’s post and I hope I get to meet her when she comes to live in Sydney! Hope those pancakes totally hit the spot and that you had a lovely weekend 🙂

Hi Sama! (Decided I like that name for you!)
Organisation is my passion! I’m getting a lot done as I have to stay awake so much. Today it’s wake at 10pm, sleep at 3pm. Chronotherapy for my insomnia. Weird! Sxxx

    • Oh, that’s tough! Shame we don’t live nearer I have plenty you could organise here! Sweet dreams, lovely! x

  • Thanks for the reminder on pancakes. I have been intending on making these for a few days now. (A nice excuse to drown them in pure maple syrup.)
    Have a fabby weekend!

  • I am agreeing time goes faster as we age…and that is scary in itself. How come I am 67 when I still think I’m in my 40s. Ah, my body tells me. I think you are getting all you can out of your life and seeing you so enjoy the musical again is what it means to LIVE. Happy last weekend of January..onward to the horrid days (and often nights) of February. It’s when I long for daylight saving to be over..but we still have to wait till first weekend in APRIL!!! PS are you going to be one of the lucky people who gets to vote in a by-election soon? NSW will have two thanks to resignation of Mike Baird and Jillian Skinner. At least I ‘understand’ our politics and try as much as I can to avoid the news of where I do NOT!

    • I know what you mean about age. I’m forty something on the outside but still five and a half on the inside! January has been a sizzler, I hope February brings a cool change. I know it’s unlikely, but I live in hope. I’m a bit of a political ostrich with my head in the sand so I have no idea about the by-election. Maybe I’ll get my sausage sizzle after all… Hope you had a wonderful weekend x

  • 2017 is the year of organisation in our house – well hopefully anyway!

  • Great links Sammie. I recently got rid of a couple of packing cubes cause I never used them. Oh no that was silly. have a great weekend

    • Packing cubes are the best – we only just discovered them on our big trip last year and now we don’t travel without them! Hope you had a delicious weekend x

  • Dianne Childs

Love the dog facts! Or maybe I just like looking at photos of cute doggies, haha 🙂

    Di from Max The Unicorn

  • Time is certainly already flying for 2017 and in general! The whole kid starting kindy thing has got me rattled!! Where did that come from?!

  • I have deviated from our standard pancakes to whip up some waffles {I bought myself a waffle iron for Christmas}. Maybe I could incorporate some of those flavours?

    • Oh yes, I saw your pic on Instagram. I think blueberry waffles sound the business! Hope you had a magic birthday weekend x

  • We love pancakes here, but only one child loves blueberries. The other usually goes for plain or choc-chip. Easily fixed. And I’m a sucker for dog-facts. I’m on a toning up, weight-loss trip too. I was lucky enough to lose a bit (in a bad way though) after surgery last year, and I have to take the exercise easy but I definitely need to replace the saggy skin with muscles plus make sure I don’t put any of that weight back on. And keep it going. My son’s birthday was on Australia Day and it was back to school this week, so we’ve been baking a lot to keep the hungry ones fed.

    • To be fair, there’s no such thing as a bad pancake, is there? I’m pleased you share my love of dog facts and sorry to hear about the bad weight loss but here’s to a happy and healthy 2017. That’s the thing about eating well and moving more, it’s not a quick fix, it’s a lifestyle choice. I’m always having to remind myself of that! Hope your son had a lovely birthday and that the return to school was full of fun!

  • Blueberry pancakes are yummo! And I totally need that post on eating healthy when going out. You’re right in that it’s easier when we eat at home but let’s face it, it’s not possible to never eat out! Hope you have a lovely weekend!

  • jess

Aren’t the stories and pictures from the women’s march simply wonderful? Have a wonderful weekend xx

    • Those stories and pictures give me hope. My Facebook and Instagram feed was full of my American friends marching in their hometowns – inspiring stuff. Hope you had a lovely weekend xx

  • 2017 is all about finding balance! Happy New Year Sammie! Look forward to linking up with you again this year. x

  • The pictures out of the women’s marches were so amazing and inspiring! There’s a groundswell of hope coming out of things like that.

    • POTUS gives me the creeps but those womens marches give me hope. I believe that good always trumps evil (excuse the pun.) Hope you had a great weekend x

  • Lorraine @ Not Quite Nigella

I’m going to take a peek at the emoji link. I love reading those sorts of things!

  • merilyn

I probably thought I did, but I didn’t press the right or wrong button!

    have a happy day lovely!
    much love m:)X

    • I don’t know what happened to your comment either, because I’m sure I read it and replied to it! Let’s lose the plot together! Hope you had a glorious weekend! xx

  • Yummm! Blueberry pancake day sounds like a delicious holiday!

I am off to read those dog facts as starting Monday with a laugh seems like the way to go!

  • I’ve spent the weekend catching up with hubby, who is back from sea (thanks cyclone) and casing Fringe World shows. No real time to link or blog hop but checking in with my favourites while I have five minutes up my sleeve.
