The Ultimate Rabbit Hole #112

Ultimate Rabbit Hole

Hello there! So lovely to see you. I’ve taken this week’s rabbit hole adventure on the road to Canberra for the Australian Running Festival. Depending on when you read this, I’ll probably be hobbling my way around the 10k course or telling everyone how much my legs hurt afterwards. But that’s not all! There’s so much to be excited about this weekend because Easter and Passover are coming! Woot!

I’ve never really celebrated Passover proper, although I have partaken in some delicious family feasts. For me, the thought of living without bread for eight days is almost too much to bear. That said, Passover is a great excuse to whip up some of my all time favourite cinnamon balls.

It would be remiss of me not to mention that today is actually National Empanada Day, oh how I love those doughy pockets of deliciousness. Keeping with the celebratory theme, I found this recipe for these super cute Easter Empanadas.

Let’s go back to Easter though, because so much yum! I’m loving these Woodland Donuts  because anything no bake and donuts gets my vote. Just as simple and just as delicious, is this Oh So Delicious Easter Popcorn  which is almost too pretty to eat. Almost but not quite!

I think Hot Cross Buns taste like Easter. If you want to get some buns in the oven but you want to think outside of the hot cross bun box, check out these Chocolate Hot Cross Buns with Ginger and Cranberrythese softest Apple and Cinnamon Hot Cross Buns, these Mars Bar Hot Cross Buns and last but not least, my Mini Egg Hot Cross Buns.

I love sugar too much to quit it entirely but when it comes to sugar highs, you can have too much of a good thing. Inspired by this Bumper Easter Gift Guide for Babies and Kids,   I’m going to be gifting my beloved small people non-edible gifts this year. And I’m totally going to get my craft on and adding these super cute DIY Carrot Bubble Wands to the list. You have to love a gift that is sugar free but full of entertainment.

If you’re up for some Easter entertaining, check out these ideas for an Easter bunny brunch and pink bunny pancakes. The cutest!

I love my Christmas tree hard but I’ve never had an Easter tree, have you? Maybe you’d want to make your own Easter Tree CentrepieceIf you’d prefer an Easter floral arrangement but don’t want to break the bank, you can make your own DIY your Easter flowers. All the blooms but half the price tag!

Last but not least, these 25 Easter Dogs are sure to make your smile, and if you want your pet to look the part this Easter, then why not make them a pair of 2 minute bunny ears?

That’s all from me, tell me what’s happening in your world this weekend. Are you egg-cited about Easter? Do you have an Easter tree? How do you like your Hot Cross Buns? Will  you or your pet be sporting some bunny ears this Easter? Whatever you’re up to, I hope you have a most egg-cellent weekend!

Every Saturday morning, we will open up the rabbit hole link up for bloggers to add their link list posts or even just their favourite post (if you are not of the link list kind) for the week. Please link only one post. This makes it fair for everyone and allows more posts to be read. Talking of reading, do try and pop along to say howdee to some of  the other lovely linkers and my awesome co-hosts. This week, you can link up here or bob on over and say hello to Paula at  The Geeky ShopaholicJess at Confident Life and Shari at Good Food WeekIt doesn’t matter where you add your link because it will appear on all four blogs, as if by magic!  The link up will stay open until midnight the following Monday.

  • Oh man, Sammie, that was one carb-laden post! I’m ok without choccies this year but not hot cross buns is killing me a little bit. I plan on having one on Easter Sunday for breaky- gotta treat yo self!

    • Life is too short not to eat the hot cross bun – lucky Easter comes but once a year! Loved your pics on IG this weekend, looks like it was full of fun!

  • Oh I’m off to check out the Mars bar hot cross buns….yummy!

Thank you for the link up!

Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend and the run went well.

  • Happy Running day Sammie. I have to say I have thought about an Easter tree before. I must now definitely have one!

    • My Christmas tree is white and I already have it up in December and in July. Now I’m thinking I should get it out at Easter and decorate it with eggs – it could be a real multi purpose tree! If you make one, please let me see! Hope you had a delicious weekend!

  • Best of luck at the Australian Running Festival! I know someone else running that too, should be a good day!

    • We had great weather for the 10k on Saturday but I felt for the half, full and ultra marathoners today who would have gotten seriously soggy too! I love a runcation – it combines two of my favourite things, running and holidays! Hope you had an ace weekend 🙂

      • Just think of it this way, rain makes you go faster. It’s a proven fact – that’s how I made it through my first half marathon. I had a fantastic weekend thank you!

  • I wish I could run in one of these. Just too woosie!! Have a ball!!

  • merilyn

    • There was so much more yum than run in Canberra, it’s such a delicious city! Hope you had a wonderful weekend xx

  • Good luck on your run! And what a delicious assortment of Easter goodies you’ve shared this week. I had a choc orange hot cross bun yesterday and enjoyed it thoroughly.

    • Choc orange is always a cracking combination, especially in a hot cross bun. Was it orange flavoured bun with choc chips? I think I need to recreate this at home! Hope you had a lovely weekend x

      • It was from Hudsons. I have a feeling the choc chips were choc orange themselves! BLISS.

  • jess

I’ve never been to Passover….no bread?! But oh how I love empanadas! Have a cracking weekend 🙂

    • Yes no bread, and it lasts for 7 or 8 days (but don’t quote me on that bit!) I’m with you on the empanadas though, so much yum! Hope you had a fab weekend x

  • Looks like it will be a cracker of a weekend for your adventures in the Capital! Have fun..of course. My link up prompt on Monday is Easter if you’d like to link your linky (I don’t know how to do that but you are clever!) for this one. That would be EGGSellent. D xx

    • I don’t know how to link my linky but I will try to link this post. I have a terrible memory so you may have to remind me! The weather was spectacular for the most part and most importantly stayed sunny and dry for the run which was the main thing. I did miss the autumn colours though. Hope your weekend was glorious!

  • Dianne Childs

OMG that Easter popcorn! How pretty and delicious looking. I would never have thought to put those ingredients together lol.

  • Can’t believe how cold it was down in Canberra this weekend. And the cold seems to have made its way up to Sydney today.

    • It was freezing, wasn’t it? The funny thing is Friday and Saturday were so sunny in Canberra. The weather did a total u-turn on Sunday 🙁
