The Ultimate Rabbit Hole #113

Rabbit Hole 6

Hoppy Easter everybunny! I’m all over the Easter puns and the long weekend, oh, I love them so! How’s your holiday shaping up?

Not only is tomorrow Easter Sunday, it’s also day of the mushroom, one of my all time favourite foods. I’m drooling over these Balsamic Soy Garlic Roasted Mushrooms, this Caprese Stuffed Garlic Portobellos and this Vegan Mushroom Wellington. I am mad about mushrooms so of course I have to add my Mushroom Lover’s Pizza into the mix. Gimme all the mushrooms!

Still on the subject of food celebrations, April is National Soft Pretzel Month and if you don’t want to eat a soft pretzel, maybe you want to craft one instead. How cute is this DIY Soft Pretzel pin cushion?

Last week’s rabbit hole adventure was jam packed with all things Easter, if you’re looking for some last minute Easter inspiration, check out these Ginger and Wattleseed Hot Cross Bunsthese Scotch “surprise” Easter Eggs Malted Chocolate Mug Cake with Mini Eggsand this . So much yum!

Did you hear that like me, the Queen always travels with cake? She’s a woman after my own heart, together we should coin the motto, “Cake! Don’t leave home without it.” Her ex-chef is spilling all the beans and sharing some of her favourite recipes. I might have to give some of them a crack, after all they’re fit for a queen!

It’s no secret that I love baking for other people, because it makes them feel good and it makes me feel good too. Clearly, I am one step ahead of myself because psychologists explain the benefits of baking for other people. I knew there was a method to my madness!

I’ve seen some app-tastic app round ups this week – 5 apps for the handyperson or in my case, wannabe handyperson, 7 of the best meditation apps,  good anxiety apps and sites you need to know about and because I will soon be leaving on a jet plane, 25 of the best travel apps.

I can’t leave you without some canine capers, and this week, it’s a most important message, what not to share with your pets this Easter.  If you care for your canine, keep them chocolate free. It will literally save their life!

What are your plans for the long weekend? Are you on Team Mushroom too? What’s the one thing you always travel with? Have you got a favourite app? Tell me all the things!

Every Saturday morning, we will open up the rabbit hole link up for bloggers to add their link list posts or even just their favourite post (if you are not of the link list kind) for the week. Please link only one post. This makes it fair for everyone and allows more posts to be read. Talking of reading, do try and pop along to say howdee to some of  the other lovely linkers and my awesome co-hosts. This week, you can link up here or bob on over and say hello to Paula at  The Geeky ShopaholicJess at Confident Life and Shari at Good Food WeekIt doesn’t matter where you add your link because it will appear on all four blogs, as if by magic!  The link up will stay open until midnight the following Monday.

  • If it’s good enough for the Queen, it’s good enough for me! I’m never leaving home without cake ever again! I’m going to have to check out some of those recipes 😀
    Have a fantastic Easter Sam

    • Here’s to carrying the cake! I hope you have an egg-cellent Easter. Will you be making some more HCBs?

      • savan ah

Strangely, I like mushrooms more than cake! Am I weird!?

  • I recall hearing about the cake and the Queen thing too. Go her!! I am not team mushroom but I will always be on team Sammie!! Happy Long Weekend in Autumn and Easter to YOU. The weather is behaving so very nicely isn’t it? That’s why I went to the beach and took these pics. D xx

    • Oh, you are so lovely! I’m so sorry I missed the Easter link up last week. These days I can just about remember if I am Arthur or Martha (or Sam!) Happy everything weekend to you, I hope you are having fun with the family. Big bunny hugs for you xx

  • Thanks for the linky!
I can’t eat mushrooms unfortunately. I have sensitivities to MSG, Salicylates and Amines. Apparently mushrooms have a natural form of MSG which means they are a no go for me. As for cake, there are no sensitivities there!
“Cake! Don’t leave home without it.” Love it.
    Hoppy Easter

    • I never knew that about mushrooms, but don’t worry, I’ll eat your share! I’m pleased you can have your cake and eat it though because cake makes everything better! Hope you’re having an egg-cellent Easter!

  • I definitely agree that baking can be a form of therapy! I’m off to check out some of those meditation apps now, I love using Insight Timer but like the sound of a few of the others mentioned.

  • I’m not a fan of mushrooms at all, but I will certainly be indulging in some chocolate and cake this Easter, haha! (and trying to keep the boys from feeding it all to the dog!) Have a very happy Easter. Thanks for the link up!

    • Don’t worry I’ll eat your share of the mushrooms and you can eat Cooper’s share of the chocolate! Hope you have a wonderful Easter.

  • jess

Happy Easter long weekend Sammie! xx

  • I am very much not on Team Mushroom. But everything else sounds eggsellent. Particularly like the Queen’s style and would love to know what cake she favours. Have a fab Easter!

    • I’m somewhat surprised at the lack of mushroom love down the rabbit hole, but am secretly quite pleased, because more for me! Hope your Easter is egg-stra special!

  • Dianne Childs

Hope you and your family have a lovely and relaxing Easter break! x

    Di from Max The Unicorn

  • Have a wonderful Easter!
Off to read up on the psychology of baking! Xx

  • Lorraine @ Not Quite Nigella

Hehe I had read two of those links-the one about the queen travelling with cake and the psychology behind baking! And thank you for sharing my scotch eggs. So much to read as always on this post! 😀

    • I’ve had that psychology and baking one saved for a while but you got me on to Queenie’s! I often spot things on Facey and save them for weekends down the rabbit hole! I love your scotch eggs and time and calories permitted, I would have loved to have given them a crack! Ha, see what I did there! Hoppy Easter!

  • merilyn

loving those mushroom recipes thanks sammie!
    lots of goodies here!
i’m stuffed to the gills today! … had lunch out and too many chocolates! :))
    enjoy your easter lovely!
    much love m:)X

    • Sounds like you’ve had a delicious weekend so far! Is there such a thing as too many chocolates?! Enjoy the rest of your long weekend, lovely! xx

  • I like that study about baking for others — I don’t bake often but when I do, it’s for others and it feels great. 🙂 In fact, I did that just last weekend. Hope you have a lovely long weekend!

  • We had mushrooms for dinner two nights in a row. Magical! But not magic mushrooms!

I love Sleep Well app. I pop on my sleeping headphones (polar fleece with headphones inside and it doubles as an eye mask, set it when I’m ready to sleep and it works a treat. Also has a sleep booster and white noise. I had to change from the Brook and Beach ones because they made me wake up for midnight wees!

Tomorrow is my son’s 13th birthday so it will be an extra special day!

    • savan ah

Sounds good. I am an insomniac!

    • I’m totally going to check out the Sleep Well app – sounds just the ticket! I can’t believe Boyo is going to be thirteen! We’ll have to call him teeno now! Hope he has a magic day! Happy long weekend x

  • Soft pretzel MONTH?!?!?!?? Now that sounds like the perfect excuse to make and eat all the salty soft pretzel goodness!

  • My Husband, me and our Kid- are huge fans of mushrooms. How was your Easter?
