The Ultimate Rabbit Hole #120

Ultimate Rabbit Hole 120

Hello there bunny holers! It’s the first weekend of June and the first weekend of summer or winter, depending on your hemisphere! It’s a new month, a new weekend and looky here, there’s a new bunny in town. Meet Lola the bunny child of Seana and the new poster girl for the Rabbit Hole. Isn’t she gorgeous?

Now today is Eat Your Beans Day. Go on, you know you want to! I’m mad for beans and I’m also mad about my slow cooker so I’m loving the look of these Pineapple Crockpot Baked Beansthis Slow Cooker Black Bean Soup and my latest new favourite slow cooker recipe, my very own Slow Cooker Beef and Bean StewIt’s so good and perfect for this wintery weather we’ve been “enjoying” as is this Slow Cooker Sausage and Bean Hotpot. Get in my belly!

House prices in Sydney are rocketing into orbit and there are more unaffordable developments than you can shake a stick at but gee, the post about what House Hunters would look like if it was set in Australia had me laughing out loud. It’s pure gold!

I love all things wedding, especially the dresses. Wedding dress shopping was the best fun and I’ve always said that one day I’m going to take off my rings for the day and go faux wedding dress shopping… just for fun! So of course, I loved this sneak peek in to beautiful bridal styles from around the world.

Talking of weddings, I had to laugh at these 23 Hideous Pinteresty Wedding TrendsIn my humble opinion, there’s nothing hideous about a wall of donuts, a candy bar or your cute puppy taking on the role of ring bearer although granted, I do draw the line at wedding rompers.

Still on the subject of weddings, people share stories about the worst wedding guests they’ve ever encountered. Some of those have to be seen to be believed!

And while we’re on the topic of relationships and marriage, this illustration of the “mental load” is spot on.

Since I’ve been back, I’ve been trying to eat more healthy food and drink less. I’m a classic stress drinker so I’m all over these 8 ways to medicate stress that aren’t alcohol.

I don’t want to sound like a fuddy duddy but these days I’m always banging on about the good old days. I think I inherited that from my beloved nana, she of the famous bread pudding fame. These 10 things our grandmas got right  sum it up really rather nicely!

Some people brought some cracking links to the link up party last week. High five to Mica, for producing her first ebook How to Have a Stylish Pregnancy on a Budget  which I am sure will be an invaluable resource to many. Jan’s post about Penang made me hungry and gave me very itchy feet and I enjoyed Beth’s behind the scenes tour of Sydney fashion house, Philosophy Australia.

Of course, a rabbit hole adventure isn’t a rabbit hole adventure without a feel good, good dog story and this one about the dog who was included in the school yearbook  will warm the cockles of your heart, I promise!

What season is it where you are? Are you a slow cooker fan too? Will you eat your beans today? What’s your most/least favourite wedding trend? Are the house prices crazy where you live too? Tell me all the things!

Every Saturday morning, we will open up the rabbit hole link up for bloggers to add their link list posts or even just their favourite post (if you are not of the link list kind) for the week. Please link only one post. This makes it fair for everyone and allows more posts to be read. Talking of reading, do try and pop along to say howdee to some of  the other lovely linkers and my awesome co-hosts. This week, you can link up here or bob on over and say hello to Paula at  The Geeky ShopaholicJess at Confident Life and Shari at Good Food WeekIt doesn’t matter where you add your link because it will appear on all four blogs, as if by magic!  The link up will stay open until midnight the following Monday.

I loved the dog photo in the school yearbook. So cute! Have an amazing weekend! 🙂

    Di from Max The Unicorn

  • I get excited every time Hugzilla posts – brilliant woman. Love the nostalgia in Mrs Woogs post too – oil of ulan for the win 🙂

    • I love it when Hugzy presses publish on a post and this one was one of my all time favourites! Mrs Woog totally nailed with the granny post. My mum and my neighbour both have amazing skin and are almost in their mid 70’s and the secret they tell me, is just washing the face with (soap and) water! Have an ace weekend x

      • Hugzilla

OK now I’m blushing. Thank you x

  • Oooh yey thanks for the shout out! I’m so incredibly proud of that ebook! And honoured to be mentioned in the same paragraph as Beth – she is just an awesome blogger and I’m lucky to have had the chance to meet up with her in person! 🙂

    Thanks for the link up!

    • You should be proud of that ebook – go you! And yes, Beth is awesome. It was so fun hanging out with her when she came to Sydney last year and I’m most gutted that I missed her this trip. Hope you have a great weekend x

Lot’s of fashion this week…feeling a little unfashionable myself….Maybe I need to check it out

    • I am the least fashionable person on the planet but I love looking at what everyone else is wearing because I’m naturally nosey! Happy Weekend!

  • Fashion scares me. But I am going to send those “hideous” wedding trends to a colleague who is wedding mad, and heartily recommend the donut wall. As for the wedding dress shopping thing… well, I’ve never been but it scares me so much. If I ever do get married, it might be in jeans and cons. Also a t-shirt. A nice halter top or something.

    • I thought I would hate the wedding dress shopping thing but it was so much fun. Did you see those wedding trends? Wedding cons are totally a thing! I just wish I’d seen the donut wall before we got married. That said, if I can persuade David, we could seal the deal at a vow renewal with a wall of donuts. How yum would that be?! Have an ace weekend! x

  • Happy Weekend Sammie.. Today we are having family come and visit as well as tomorrow…nothing like some news of cancer to bring people together..the good from the bad! I’m soaking up as many active things to do as I can for that time ahead where it wont be happening. House prices need to slow and even decrease, it’s even getting ridiculous up here on the Central Coast where they are now referring to it as ‘suburbs of Sydney’ D xx

    • As challenging as a cancer diagnosis can be, there are definitely silver linings and good things really do come out of something that’s so bad. I’m pleased your troops are rallying and hope that you have a wonderful time with your peeps. I’ve always wanted to retire to the central coast but at this rate, we won’t be able to afford it! Have a beautiful weekend! xx

  • Happy weekend Sammie! It’s a new month and a new season and I’m determined to have a new mindset. I’m actually headed out to dinner tonight with my husband for our five year wedding anniversary- without the children!

    • Oh yay! Hope your June is joyful. It certainly sounds like it’s got off to a love-ly start! Happy Anniversary! xx

      • Argh, sorry, just realised that my link up wasn’t scheduled properly – I have now fixed it up.

  • Wasn’t that comic so spot on for so many people? And I loved Hugzilla’s House Hunter pisstake! Your slow cooker recipe sounds great, too. Love my SC almost as much as my thermie!

    • I loved your response to the comic and the FB discussion. I was going to add you to my round up this week but was hoping you’d link it up – thank you for not disappointing! I’m with you, I really love my slow cooker as much as the thermie. I’ve used it nearly every night this week and it’s a big feature of next week’s meal plan too!

  • jess

The slow cooker is on all winter long for us! And I loved that Mental Load article, shared it with many friends. Happy weekend! xx

    • Slow cookers and beanies (but not necessarily together) are my two favourite things about winter! That article was cracking, wasn’t it?! Hope you have a delicious weekend!

  • Happy weekend lovely! I’m planning to slow cook a leg of lamb tomorrow – can’t wait!

    • Snap! I’ve got slow cooker lamb on the meal plan too! Great minds slow cook alike! Hope you have a wonderful weekend x

  • Thanks for another fabby week!

  • Thanks for the shout out! 😀

Feeling pretty lucky to live in Adelaide where property ownership is still attainable! Some slow cooker goodness is also sounding pretty good for this chilly weather although I’m impatient so it’s more like pressure cooker for me but the results are just as tasty!

    • I would love a pressure cooker too but I’m trying to be more minimalist in the kitchen. Affordable house prices is just another reason to add to my “I Love Adelaide” list. In my opinion, it’s massively underrated!

  • Lorraine @ Not Quite Nigella

Haha I saw the dog yearbook one. It totally earned its spot!

  • House prices are crazy here too! It makes me wonder how are kids are ever going to get in the market!! And I love all things weddings too. Would wear a black dress (I wore off-white/champagne) if my hubby would marry me again! Haha Xx

    • I worry about the future generations and if/how they’ll ever become home owners. That said, I think it’s an urban epidemic, house prices are mad and crazy in big cities all over the world, although that doesn’t make it right! I actually got married in pink and would wear it again, if hubby agreed to a do over! I think a black dress would be stunning!

  • michelle barrington

Another week for the link up – this year is flying by!! I love using our slow cooker – it is like a personal chef who solves the dinner dilemma in witching hour and I love being at work or out for the day knowing the cooking is being done while I am enjoying myself. Hugzilla’s post was hilarious wasn’t it. Would be even funnier if it wasn’t so true.

    • The slow cooker is going to get a through workout this winter, that’s for sure! I’m with you on Hugzy’s post, it would be funnier if it wasn’t so true. Hugzy knows what’s what! Loved your post this week – have you listened to The Minimalists podcast? I think you would love it!

      • michelle barrington

You are right Sam, I do love that podcast!

  • Hugzilla

    MWAH!! Thank you x

  • I liked some of those pinterest wedding trends but some were just a little too tedious like the confetti bar! lol … And the post on Grandmas was great! Made me think of my own! 🙂 Have a great week Sammie!

  • That mental load comic was really interesting!

  • I’m with you on the hideous trends – I would call a wall of donuts delicious, not hideous 😛

The rusty bathtub of drinks though? That may be a little TOO rustic!

  • Thanks for the lovely bread pudding recipe.Interesting wedding dresses you have shared. Its extreme hot here in North India. Happy to linkup.

    • I saw your picture on Instagram and it looked gorgeous! That bread pudding is so delicious, nana always knows best!
