Taking Stock – July 2025

July is birthday month at our house and this year felt like it was a genuine birthday festival. We hosted and visited friends and family near and far and even managed to squeeze in a sneaky side trip in the sunshine. Why don’t you grab a cuppa and join me for a July recap?

Turning: 54. Don’t worry, I’m still only 6 on the inside!

Requesting: The Pig Cake from the AWW Birthday Cake Book. David delivered!

Celebrating: All of our birthdays – David, Teddy and I have birthdays with 11 days of each other.

Remembering: My mum on her heavenly birthday. Her birthday is 2 days after mine.

Missing: Her so much – especially at this time of the year.

Opening: Cards and presents and feeling very blessed.

Thinking: How I outdid myself this year with David’s D cake!

Making: These Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana bites. I’m obsessed.

Cooking: Not much – it was too hot! Can you believe?!

Posting: The recipe for this One Pot Chicken and Chorizo Stew and my other obsession, this Carrot Cake Granola.

Jetting: Off to Palma, Majorca for a little mini break.

Staying: At the lovely Hotel Saratoga with a view of the cathedral from our balcony.

Exploring: Palma’s Old Town – stay tuned for an armchair adventure!

Eating: So much tapas!

Sharing: More about where we stayed, shopped and played in Palma here.

Drinking: Lots of cocktails.

Liking: Being able to get to Europe so easily.

Loving: Palma – it was such a revelation.

Disliking: That David brought home covid as a souvenir.

Feeling: Well… And very lucky that I didn’t get Covid!

Reliving: The best bits of our self-guided Emily in Paris tour. Magnifique!

Taking: One for the team and sharing the best treats and eats in Disneyland Paris.

Joining: Sherry and friends for this month’s In My Kitchen.

Noticing: That it’s almost time to go blackberry picking!

Reading: The entire Rose Hill series by Elsie Silver. It’s seriously steamy!

Listening: To Scouting for Girls. As always.

Watching: Amy Bradley is Missing on Netflix. Can’t stop thinking about it.

Seeing: The touring production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. My all time fave!

Wishing: We had aircon – English houses just aren’t made for the heat.

Cheering: On our neighbour who ran an ultra marathon! What a legend!

Hosting: Our dear friend Dan from Sydney – we were all so pleased to see him, especially Teddy.

Going: Up north for some time with the fam.

Taking: Our lovely friends Richard and Heather to the local vineyard – it felt like we were in Tuscany!

Wondering: Where the month went.

Looking: Forward to a bit more summer!
