Taking Stock – August 2025

August was an absolute cracker with not one but two trips to London, a side trip to Liverpool and plenty of action on the home front too. I might need September to recover but for now, I’m taking some time to take stock of the month that was. Why don’t you grab a cuppa and join me?

Baking: More shortbread and pesto twists.

Making: All things zucchini. I literally have had zucchini bigger than my arms!

Needing: More zucchini ideas – I’m all ears!

Eating: Lots of salads – it’s been so hot!

Drinking: Rosé. It’s been the weather for it.

Weekending: In London at our friend’s place by the river.

Enjoying: A visit to James Blunt’s pub The Fox and the Pheasant. The pies there are epic.

Dining: At the River Cafe for a special dinner with friends.

Catching: Up with my auntie and cousin in the big smoke.

Walking: The mews of London with my auntie.

Noticing: How London is full of hidden treasures.

Going: To Liverpool to see Scouting For Girls at Liverpool Cathedral. Best!

Watching: Bosch on Amazon Prime. It’s so good.

Reading: We All Want Impossible Things by Catherine Newman. Tissues were required.

Liking: Summer 2025. It’s been a cracker.

Disliking: When the weather gets any hotter than 25 degrees!

Seeing: Our friends who moved back to the UK from Sydney a few months before us.

Wondering: If Teddy and Wookie bark Australian to each other?!

Loving: The generosity of my neighbours who share the fruits (and veg) of their alloment labour!

Joining: Sherry and friends for this month’s In My Kitchen.

Posting: Not one but two recipes for this Leek and Potato Soup and this Apple, Cinnamon and Banana Bread.

Sharing: My guide to the best cocktail bars in Palma de Mallorca.

Publishing: My guide to where to eat, stay and caffeinate in Paris.

Getting: Some very sad news about a colleague.

Remembering: How precious life is and not taking it for granted.

Looking: Forward to autumn cosiness.

How was your August? What are you most looking forward to in the new season?
