In My Kitchen – October 2025

Honestly, October flew by in the blink of an eye. Still there’s no time to dilly dally because it’s November 1st which means it’s time to join Sherry and friends for a quick look back at what’s been happening In My Kitchen. Let’s go!

We had a marvellous mini break in Athens at the start of the month and I was very retail-ly restrained. I didn’t buy any souvenirs (apart from the obligatory Christmas decoration.) I did however buy olives, quite a lot of them, in fact. We did a self guided food tour which was really fun and which recommended Roe Olives. As it was, we got there just before closing and just after a couple of glasses of wine so it was a bit like supermarket sweep! My favourites are the black shrivelled ones – they are naturally mature, salt-cured olives and have a really concentrated flavour. The curing process draws the water out of the olives making them wrinkly, chewy and all kinds of delicious!

One more thing I bought back from Athens… A recipe! We had a lovely experience at Cinque Wine and Deli run by a mother and son. Prior to visiting, we checked the reviews and everyone raved about Evangelia’s tzatziki so of course I had to try. It was of course, divine and luckily Evangelia was more than happy to share the recipe. I can’t wait to share it with you soon.

The allotment bounty keeps on coming! My friend Nick dropped off green tomatoes, cucumbers, green chillis and more zucchini!

Keeping with the green theme, another lovely neighbour brought over some green grapes from her garden no less! They were deliciously sweet!

We’ve been really making an effort to eat healthy and I’ve been using @emthenutritionist recipes for almost every meal – breakfast, lunch and dinner! I don’t have many pictures to show because tired and hangry aren’t ideal conditions for food photography but here’s one of Em’s Chilli Cheese Toast – this recipe has been on high rotation this month!

I can forget about good lighting for food photos until the clocks change again so bear with me. Here’s a visual of Em’s Fish Pie in Croute – I just wish my pic could do this dish justice. It was an absolute treat! Best of all, it was super easy to put together and is pretty healthy too. Win, win!

While we’re on the subject of pastry, we had some friends over for pie night, I made the Recipe Tin Beef and Mushroom Pie and a smaller veggie Pumpkin, Mushroom and Lentil Pie – it’s perfect Autumn food. Terrible pic but you get the idea…

I couldn’t resist this limited edition Santa soy sauce. I keep telling David that it’s too cute to put in the cupboard!

My lovely neighbours got me this 2-in-1 cruet bottle for my birthday along with some top notch oil and vinegar. It’s only taken me this long to fill this baby up and start using it. Better late than never and all that.

I pressed publish on two slice recipes this month, one sweet and one savoury. This Easy Bakewell Traybake has a special place in my heart and this Gluten-Free Zucchini Slice is the real deal. Yes, my zucchini game is still strong!

We love a meatless recipe and this month, there was the Maple Gochujang Glazed Butternut Squash and this Vegan Pesto – nom nom.

I didn’t create any new Halloween recipes for the blog but I did make these ‘slime cups’ for the dessert of a pre-Halloween dinner with friends. I layered the jelly with bug lollies, used crushed oreos for the ‘soil’ and finished things off with candy pumpkins and Marks and Spencer’s Colin the Caterpillars. They were spooktacular!

So that was October in my kitchen. Now I’ve told you what’s been happening in mine, I’d love to hear what’s been cooking in yours! Tell me everything in the comments.
