Taking Stock – January 2026

It’s the first Taking Stock of 2026 and honestly… I’m still in denial that it’s already February. But here I am anyway, taking a quick look back at January – a month that struck the perfect balance of friends, family, and good food, with some absolutely freezing temperatures thrown in for good measure. Brrrr!

Making: Overnight oats – my new breakfast addiction.

Baking: These Chewy Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chunk Cookies. Sooooo good.

Cooking: My way through Emily English’s Live to Eat.

Eating: Less carbs and more protein and fibre!

Drinking: Herbal tea, sparkling water and red wine (but not all at the same time.)

Taking: A trip to the Big Smoke for some QAT (Quality Auntie Time.)

Spending: Time with family – here with my auntie and cousin. Priceless.

Enjoying A bird’s eye view of London from the Sky Garden. Did you know it’s free?

Freezing: My bits off – it has been sooo cold!

Attempting: My first walk/run for about 4 years!

Battling: The bulge. 13 kilos down and counting. I have a lot more work to do!

Feeling: Healthy or at least healthier.

Getting: Some snow. Teddy was not very impressed.

Watching: Heated Rivalry.

Listening: To the Heated Rivalry soundtrack.

Reading: Heated Rivalry. Can you see a theme here?!

Marvelling: At the first sunset of the year – what a beaut!

Decluttering: And selling heaps of stuff on Vinted.

Starting: A new temporary job teaching English and loving it.

Having: Lunch at Dishoom with one of my besties.

Catching: Up with friends from Australia who also moved back to the UK. See, we’re not the only ones!

Loving: The ‘new cushion of truth’ on our bed!

Liking: Being busy in the kitchen.

Disliking: The news and the state of the world right now.

Going: For blood tests in preparation for my annual check up. Bring on the anxiety…

Hoping: For good news.

Walking: 10,000 steps a day – weather permitting.

Coveting: A walking pad. I just need to find a place to store it.

Wondering: Where the time goes.

Bookmarking: All things Paris – our next little adventure.

Looking: Forward to February!

So now I’ve told you all about my January, I’d love to hear about yours! Tell me everything in the comments.
