Last supper in Sydney

It’s Friday and my last working day before holidays! I’m so excited and I just can’t hide it! I work off some of the excitement at Basic Training and am have such a good time I am really rather sad when the class is finished. I feel like an energiser bunny this morning. I could just keep on going and going and…. well, you get the idea.

Work is great fun. I can’t  believe another 4 week “term” has finished. It’s time to say farewell to a couple of lovely students who are going back to their country. One of them is quite overcome with emotion and makes a short and sweet farewell speech while sobbing into her hanky. I admire her, making a speech in tears;  let’s face it, public speaking is  hard enough in your mother tongue, let alone in your second language! I guess after four years language teaching I’ve gotten a bit blase. Suddenly, I have  an epiphany and see the school experience through a students’ eyes. Here they are, thousands of miles from home, learning a language, making new friends from all over the world and experiencing a new lifestyle and culture; that’s a pretty big deal by any stretch of the imagination. What an awesome ride!

The afternoon flies by until it’s beer o’clock and tonight a record number of colleagues are enticed to the pub. There’s about 10 of us and it feels quite like a school excursion! It’s all very jolly and I make the most of the beer, and the cheer, because I won’t be seeing my wonderful work buddies for a whole, long month. I love them dearly and will miss them terribly. The best thing about my job is definitely the people I work with; they are truly top of the pops!

It’s my last night in Sydney so I have a night out of, and off from, the kitchen and David takes me for a feast fit for a raja at my favourite curry hot spot Malabar. It’s the most incredible indian food and it’s gotten to the point  where I dare not go anywhere else for Indian, for fear of experiencing acute dining disappointment! We feed our faces til we are full and after that we’re good for nothing except lying in a vegetative state on the sofa and having a quick catch up of this weeks’ Biggest Loser. I make the most of it. I’m going to be going Biggest Loser cold turkey from tomorrow and will sure have a lot of catching up to do on my return!
