Compass Club at Newport Bay, Disneyland Paris – Is it worth it?

Having done some full and thorough reporting and reviewing of the Newport Bay Club at Disneyland Paris, I’m back to give you the low down on the hotel’s Compass Club. If you want to enhance your Newport Bay experience, the Compass Club offers premium rooms and a host of exclusive benefits and amenities. The million dolllar question is, is it worth it?!

What do you get at the Compass Club?

Compass Club has a range of fancy perks including a private reception, luggage service, upgraded rooms on floors 7 and 8 and access to a private lounge with complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea and soft/hot drinks served throughout the day.

What are Compass Club rooms like?

We had the entry level Compass Club double room. All Compass Club rooms have been upgraded and ours was on level 8. The Compass Club rooms are closer to the reception, lounge and restaurants which in a hotel of this size saves you valuable minutes.

Our Compass Club Double Room

Our room was very spacious (especially by Paris standards) and had a big double bed. We weren’t overly keen on the interconnecting door to the next room but we were told that all the rooms with one double bed have an interconnecting door. As it was, it was fine and we hardly heard our neighbour at all. Like all Disney hotels, the theming is on point literally from the floor to the ceiling! Even the soap is Mickey themed!

Perks of Compass Club rooms include a coffee machine with pods, bathrobes, slippers and a mini fridge. In the Compass Club rooms, the headboard has a unique light up Mickey shaped headboard decorated with a navigation bar as well as portholes around the room with Mickey and friends. We also appreciated the complimentary bottles of water and the abundance of electrical sockets.

Bathrobes and slippers are a Compass Club perk

There is a separate dressing area outside the bathroom with a safe, ironing board, space to store a suitcase and sink/vanity area. The bathroom was a bit tired although clean. We loved the Mickey themed toiletries but the weak, drizzly shower not so much.

Was Compass Club worth it?

For us, most definitely. It saved us a lot of time at the start and the end of our trip because checking in and out was a breeze. We also really appreciated having a room on one of the top floors of the hotel, it was very quiet and peaceful. Just remember to ask for a room a little way away from the lifts because they can be noisy.

Compass Club Floor, Level 8

The Compass Club lounge was fabulous, the quality of both the food and service surpassed our expectations. We had a good breakfast, a delicious afternoon tea and often, soft and/or hot drinks inbetween. We only needed a snack at lunchtime and/or a light meal in the evening.

What was the food like at the Compass Club?

Honestly? Way better than we expected!

Both breakfast and afternoon tea were served buffet style and I have to say that never in all my years of staying in hotels (and some of them very fancy) have I seen a buffet so well tended by it’s chefs, they really take pride in their work.

The selection of cakes and sweet treats at afternoon tea

Although breakfast is also served in the Newport’s Cape Cod restaurant, the breakfast in the Compass Club Lounge is a much calmer and far less busy affair, even at peak times. The breakfast buffet has something for everyone. There is a big choice of English breakfast items – bacon, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, sliced potatoes, sausages (both meat and vegetarian,) mushrooms and baked beans. There is also a range of cold meat and cheeses (some cut into the shape of Mickey Mouse) as well as a good range of bread, baked goods, cakes and cereal.

Mickey Mouse cheese? Yes please!

Although I was a bit disappointed that the pancakes that came out of the machine were round and not Mickey shaped, I was relieved to find the Mickey Mouse waffles. These are made in advance though and mine were a bit soggy by the time I got to them.

For afternoon tea, there is always a selection of pancakes small cakes, cake pops, croissants and pain au chocolat as well as bread, yoghurt, fresh fruit, mini savoury items speciality cakes and a choice of panna cotta and mousse type desserts.

The Compass Club Lounge is designed to make you feel like you’re on a luxury cruise ship and it definitely feels that way. It’s open until 10pm and outside of breakfast and afternoon tea, you can visit anytime for a soft or hot drink. At these times especially, the lounge is an oasis of quiet and calm. The lovely staff are always on hand to take care of you – the service here is really special.

Just a fraction of the teatime offering

Probably my favourite feature of the Compass Club Lounge is the coffee cloud situation. You never know which Disney character is going to turn up on top of your cup!

Definitely our favourite coffee cloud of the trip!
