Taking Stock – January 2024

Well that’s the first month of the year done and dusted. January here was cold and quiet but there was still plenty to warm the cockles of the heart. Here’s a quick look back at the month that was.

Seeing: In the new year with old friends – good times!

Playing: Some fun games – Get a Hint was the crowd favourite though.

Baking: Zucchini brownies – recipe coming soon!

Cooking: My way through Ottolenghi’s Simple – it’s a cracker of a cookbook!

Making: Another one of these Rocky Road wreaths for faux Christmas which went down a treat!

Eating: Mostly at home except for when we were…

Feasting: At our friends Lucy and James’ place – enjoying an Ottolenghi feast. Five stars!

This beetroot salad with yoghurt and dill was just one of the dishes

Drinking: Tea out of my new Teddy mug – isn’t it the cutest?

Weekending: In Newcastle for our faux family Christmas.

Marvelling: At my sister-in-law who just casually threw this Christmas feast together.

Needing: To know how to make yorkies like this!

Enjoying: The beach at South Shields – even in the depths of winter, it’s still stunning!

Watching: All the Harlan Coben dramas on Netflix – highly recommend.

Recommending: Mr Bates vs The Post Office – honestly you couldn’t make this stuff up!

Cranking: Up the heating.

Lighting: Lots of fires – so cosy!

Trying: Some non alcoholic drinks while David is doing Dry January. This gin is particularly good!

Adding: To my plant collection, I’m quite the plant lady now you know!

Surprising: Myself that I haven’t killed any of my plants… Yet.

Joining: In with Sherry and friends for this month’s In My Kitchen.

Sharing: The recipe for this super yummy Easy Coffee Traybake.

Allowing: Teddy to guest post about everything you need to know about moving your pet overseas.

Wondering: Where he learnt to write so well!

Loving: Winter skies.

Liking: Seeing the sheep at beautiful Burghley House. The sheep poo not so much, LOL!

Disliking: The floods we had at new year. In this pic, all the water in the background is usually grass!

Swapping: French for Spanish on Duolingo. I’m obsessed.

Swooning: Over my new nails.

Putting: All the Christmas kit away on New Year’s Day – order has been restored!

Buying: A full length mirror for our bedroom – we haven’t had one since we moved tot he UK!

Having: An appointment with the consultant at the local head and neck unit – such a credit to the NHS!

Getting: An ultrasound and the all clear. Yay!

Taking: Teddy to the vet. Poor little sausage has not had the healthiest start to the year.

Wearing: My new hat that I got for Christmas from my sis in law … And yes, she got David one too!

Pottering: About at home.

Spotting: The first signs of spring.

Booking: Some mini breaks for later in the year – it’s good to have something to look forward to.

Missing: My mum so much. I think the more that time passes, the more I miss her. Sigh.

Thinking: How happy she’d be that we’re so happy – that brings me some comfort.

Looking: Forward to a fun filled February.

Hope your month number one was fun. I’d love to hear all about it – tell me in the comments!
