Taking Stock – June 2024

Can you believe we’re more than half way through the year? I can’t. I mean, where does the time actually go? It feels like a few weeks ago we were clinking glasses and saying Happy New Cheer and now here we are in JULY! Argh!

Anyhoo, June was a short but pleasing month with just the right balance of work, play and time at home and away. I’m going to grab a cuppa and do a quick rewind of the month that was. I’d love it if you joined me.

Making: Rhubarb curd – it’s crazy good! Can’t stop making it, won’t stop making it.

Baking: My way through the archives with this Flourless Coconut and Almond Cake.

Cooking: This chicken pie for David for Father’s Day. Can’t wait to share the recipe.

Using: Up all my brown bananas and making this yummy Banana and Carrot Cake.

Eating: Scones with rhubarb butter – it’s the season for it!

Drinking: Wine at The Rutland Vineyard – the wine is as stunning as the view!

Posting: This recipe for Healthier Chicken Parmigiana. It’s one of our favourites.

Starting: To learn German… on Duolingo, of course!

Finishing: Up invigilating for the summer season.

Celebrating: Our one year house-a-versary!

Giving: Our lounge a makeover and thrilled with the result – we have so much space now.

Booking: A mini break to Cologne for the Christmas markets in December.

Linking: Up with Sherry for this month’s In My Kitchen.

Sharing: Where to eat, stay and play and the best bars and cafes in Madrid. Take me back!

Reading: James Blunt’s Loosely Based on a Made Up Story but I’m such a slow reader these days.

Watching: England play in the Euros – they’ve been very underwhelming thus far.

Listening: To 80s anthems while I work out.

Exercising: With Joe Wicks most days. What a guy!

Enjoying: A girl’s night in Birmingham with my old pal from uni, Saz.

Seeing: James live at Birmingham Utilita Arena – what a treat.

Going: To London for some quality auntie time.

Catching: Our favourite actor, Daryl McCormack in the play, A Long Day’s Journey Into Night.

Bringing: Back this enormo-challah from auntie’s local Jewish bakery. So good!

Coughing: My guts up for the first half of the month but it’s nothing that a bowl of chicken soup can’t fix!

Escaping: To the country to my friend’s barn to catch up with the gang.

Buying: Peter Alexander PJs – they deliver to England for just five pounds! Who knew?!

Winning: Tickets to Dogfest at Burghley House. Teddy had a great day and even scored a free fur trim!

Picking: My own rhubarb from the allotment. Such a treat!

Wondering: What to do with this fresh garlic my neighbour brought me from his allotment.

Looking: Up at the beautiful blue skies.

Noticing: The beauty and history of Stamford’s streets. Barn Hill is one of my favourites.

Marvelling: That the geraniums I planted have not only bloomed but are still alive.

Loving: My new nails. My nail tech April never disappoints!

Loving: Teddy’s new haircut – just in time for the mini heatwave!

Liking: Friday flowers – it’s totally a thing.

Disliking: The news.

Thinking: About who to vote for in the upcoming election. I am not spoilt for choice.

Adding: This coffee plant to my little green growing family.

Laughing: At the t-shirt Teddy bought David for Father’s Day. It’s perfect!

Wearing: My new alphabet animal Little Party Dress.

Managing: To spend two weekends with my dear friend Heather.

Moaning: About the weather, it’s either too hot or too cold. Why can’t it be just right?!

Cheering: On the teams in the inauguaral Kiwani’s Raft Race.

Getting: Excited about birthday season – me, David and Teddy all have July birthdays.

How was your June? What are you looking forward to in July?
